The Actor and the Audition - 5 Famous Examples

They say an actor’s job is that of a professional auditioner. I have heard that 1 in 1500 actors get the job! Don't know how true that is, but considering all the actors out there I guess it could be an accurate figure.

So, what makes a great audition, let’s see some examples of famous people.

1. Rachel McAdams - The Notebook

Ok, well this is one of my favourite movies and I also love her, I think she is great in this audition and her choice of turning around and giving her back to the camera was so effective. I know alot of "auditioning classes" would tell you to always have your eyes in the cameras view, well this just shows you that you don't have to follow the rules, there are no rules, bring yourself to it and it will be great.

2. Emma Stone - Easy A

To be honest, I don't know what the fuss about her is. Jim Carey is a massive fan of her acting. I don't think she makes any choices in the audition, and to me it feels like she is just reciting some words. No thoughts going on behind the words. But then again, she was hired so who am I to talk! I do love the fact that it is easier these days to get your audition on tape at home with so many casting access websites.

3. Natalie Portman - Leon

A very cute 11 year old Portman. I do think she does a better job in the actual movie but still a good audition. She was very pretty from a young age and hasn’t changed much. She has a cheekiness in her eyes.

4. Gerard Butler - Dracula 2000

He takes control of the audition and changes the atmosphere. Such presence. I have not seen the film. I would be curious to see other auditions for this role.

5. Robert Deniro - The Godfather

Deniro. Enough said. He didn't get this part but of Sonny, but he did get the part in The Godfather 2. So even Deniro didn't get parts.

My lesson: don’t take it personally if they don't choose you. There are so many other factors.
